Pastor's Notes:

Dear Alumni of Transfiguration,

What a joy for me as new pastor to attend the Transfiguration School's 40th Anniversary gathering and meet so many of your smiling faces. From all appearances, it seems that life has been good to you and that you have found much peace and happiness.

As the days have been clicking by, I have spent much time trying to get to know the parish faith community better and to assess the immediate needs of our school. One day I was caught up in a moment of dreaming. As the saying in scripture goes: "young men dream dreams and old men see visions" Well, I have set my sights on a dream - which can become a reality, and hopefully, in the not too far distant future. With the arrival of four of our Mercedarian Sisters on July 1st, we set out on a whole new venture, making Transfiguration School even more desirable; not only because of the quality of academics, the spirit of community and the prayerful environment, but also the actual religious presence of our priests and sisters, daily encouraging our youth to live their faith. The Sisters come to us bringing a wonderful spirit of gentleness, compassion and yet a true commitment to teaching and to building character in our students. The Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy are a worldwide community of Sisters having their General House in Rome. They teach around the globe. We welcome them and look forward to their dedication in helping us achieve our goals and dreams.

It is my ardent desire and goal to be able to construct another classroom building, so as to eliminate the use of the portable modules. As so many have heard me say: "in due time." With the combined efforts of the SAC and the enthusiasm of our volunteer Foundations and Grant Committee, just maybe we will be able to make that dream come true!

You, as former graduates of our glorious institution play an important role in the process of our future growth and expansion. Realizing the tremendous gift of faith that was transmitted to you while you attended our school, we now turn to you to be our greatest advertisement. Your life, the quality of your faith, the enthusiasm of your commitment to the Alumni Association speaks in loudest terms: Catholic Education Works! We need your support, but not just in a financial sense. We need your prayerful support and your continued effort to tell others about the quality of Catholic Education here at Transfiguration. Many of you have brought your children back to Transfiguration so that they too may experience the sense of family that you enjoyed here. Please also tell your friends and co-workers about our wonderful teachers and the curriculum here at Transfiguration Parish School. You are our best advertisers.

Each year, as more and more graduates pass through our doors, the Principal, I as Pastor, and the teachers are reminded that wonderful things happen HERE. The frail and timid, weak and strong, hesitant and extrovert alike are all formed and molded into individuals with strong character and the mark of distinction as young Catholic ladies and gentlemen. You and all of our graduates have made us proud by your accomplishments. However, what is most important is for us not to take each other for granted, but to be mutually aware that what we have and what we are comes from our being rooted in Christ Jesus, our true Teacher and Master.

Each of you assists in completing the true picture and history of Transfiguration Parish School. It is my prayer that you will continue to remain closely associated with our school and, if in any way possible, will assist us to make our dreams materialize. May the Lord bless each of you abundantly with His Merciful Love.

Prayerfully,

Fr. Jerome P. Laubacker, O. de M.
