Attending the reunion made me feel like the mission of our school was truly carried to each and every one of you. The smiles, the laughter, the sharing and the loving of each other was evident and the "proof of the pudding". What a wonderful time everyone had! A special thanks goes to Janet Waddell and her committee for all of their hard work that made the weekend such a wonderful success. No words can express our gratitude. The Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy will be coming in July to begin their mission here, as I will be retiring at the end of June. I feel confident they will do a great job! Please open your hearts to them with our normal warm Transfiguration welcome. Our Early Childhood Program has completed its first year with such success that we are expanding the program, opening a second class for four-year olds. Our neighborhood has become an area where our single parent families (as well as two parent families) are struggling financially. We are striving to meet their needs with child-care that encompasses spiritual as well as moral support. Please keep our families in your prayers. Our school is working hard to meet the needs of our children today with the Free and Reduced Lunch Program, Extended Day Program (currently 100 children enrolled), Title One, a Resource Program for our learning disabled children as well as our gifted students, Rainbows for students whose parents are divorced and/or students who have lost loved ones, and a Guidance program emphasizing Resolution Conflict as well as Peer Mediation. We continue to offer the D.A.R.E. program for drug safety and, of course, the wonderful Family Life program. Our Computer Lab, complete with 36 new computers, gives our students the opportunity to develop 21st century skills and is integrated into the daily curriculum. We are very fortunate to have a Band program with 38 students, taught by Mrs. Bonnie Mayak, and a Theatre Arts program, directed by Mrs. Sheelagh Wallis, that together present wonderful "High School quality" performances twice a year, including a performance at Eckerd College in the Fall. Our music students performed this past spring at The Fine Arts Festival at St. Petersburg Catholic High School. This past January, our students' artwork was on display at the St. Petersburg Pier. Last, but not least, we still offer our fine Athletic program, competing with the other Catholic schools in lower Pinellas County in Soccer, Volleyball, Track, Basketball, Softball and Cheerleading. We continually strive to offer a well-balanced and varied program to meet the needs of the whole child. In doing, this, we send a well-rounded student onto a successful high school career. Our list of accomplishments could go on and on, as I am very proud of this school. I will always be grateful to have been a part of its history for the last nine years. Please remember us financially as we are always struggling to make ends meet while providing the type of education Transfiguration has always been able to offer. We qualify each year for assistance from established scholarships and grants such as the Forbes and Catholic Schools Assistance programs, however, it becomes more and more difficult each year to make ends meet while we strive to keep tuition at a level where our parents can afford it. Two new programs are in their inaugural year; the Adopt-A-TPS Student and our Classroom Sponsorship Program (see the note on page 3). Please also remember us in your wills if possible. Each dollar donation is a help! Above all, keep us in your prayers! God will continue to let us grow and prosper if we ask. When two or more come together in His name, He is with us. This community has come together for a wonderful forty years! And with your help, it will continue to do so for another forty years!
