NEWS

When we have news regarding the former members of the Outlaws, we'll post it here.  Clearly this page will change often.

My apologies for not keeping the website as up to date as I should.  Health problems have been tormenting me for the past couple of years. At any rate, I sure picked a great time to come back--as everyone pretty much knows by now Hughie has left Lynyrd Skynyrd--the LS folks say it is to pursue other musical interests. Now personally, I think maybe Gary Ro$$ington got jealous when they did the CMT special with Montgomery Gentry cuz Hughie stole the damn show ...

Rumors are flying again about a reunion...only now I know who started them and it wasn't Launch! They just spread it around.

From Launch Media "If you watched Lynyrd Skynyrd's CMT special on Saturday (February 5th), you might have noticed that the band was a little smaller. Guitarist Hughie Thomasson wasn't on the show, and he was cropped out of the band photo that was shown. LAUNCH has learned that Thomasson has left Skynyrd, and that he's working on some things with his former band, the Outlaws.

What isn't known is whether Lynyrd Skynyrd will go back to their traditional three-guitar lineup. One source told LAUNCH that the group will stay with Gary Rossington and Rickey Medlocke on guitar for the time being. We'll find out one way or the other on Sunday (February 13th), when Skynyrd plays the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, the award show airs on CBS starting at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Lynyrd Skynyrd will anchor a tribute to Southern Rock at the Grammys, which will open with "Free Bird" and close with "Sweet Home Alabama." In between, Elvin Bishop will come out for his "Fooled Around And Fell In Love," and Dickey Betts will play his Allman Brothers Band hit "Ramblin' Man." The tribute will also include country stars Gretchen Wilson, Keith Urban, and Tim McGraw. "

Someone should have told former Outlaws about this one....

I discussed this with Harvey Arnold who says he knows NOTHING of said reunion. He said he had seen a Launch press release regarding Hughie leaving L$ but as for knowledge of this reunion he said "nah- im in the dark- i just wish Hughie the best, whatever he does- I hope its good and he's happy. I'm glad that Hughie is on his own- he was too muffled and hogtied with his last gig."

When I asked him if he'd participate in a reunion if he were asked, Harv said "Would be hard to say no- i think it would be fun. They may not deem me necessary- I'd be ok if they reformed and didn't call, but I'd be disappointed. They may not deem me necessary- id be ok if they reformed and didnt call, but id be disappointed. Well you know me- I'm pretty easy going- i feel like they'll call if they want me. - i wont ask if I'm not wanted."

Harv, you're so humble...THE FANS DEEM YOU NECESSARY!!!

In other news, I will be working on site updates FINALLY....I lost a ton of email but was able to recover most of it so if you contributed something for the photo albums, hopefully I'll get those up soon. Thanks to the folks who sent donations for the photo server--we are paid for another year!

My apologies for not keeping the website as up to date as I should.  Health problems as well as the unexpected death of my "lil brother" Clay A. Mesa have kinda kept me sidetracked.  I've been busy working with some Orlando musicians trying to set up a fundraiser to set up a trust fund for Clay's 7 yr old daughter Taylor and just haven't been putting much time into this site.  Again, my apologies.  Some new photos have been added to the photo albums, and I'm updating the links section now.
The schedules for BlackHawk and LS appearances have also been updated.

Ya'll run over and see Henry's great new website at http://www.henrypaul.com

Major congratulations going out to Alan Walden, former Outlaws manager and owner of Hustlers, Inc., who is being inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame as a 2002 winner.  Can't think of a more deserving guy---WAY TO GO ALAN!!!

Of course the big news so far this year has been the recent note we received from Henry Paul, which is on the front page of the site just as he wrote it.  Prospects of a live BlackHawk project with old Outlaws stuff included and the mention of special guests of course brought about the question as to whether Monte Yoho was involved.

Monte sez: " I don't really have anything to do with this project at this time. Right now, I have two shows I'm getting ready to start in March...I'm going to see Henry in a few weeks."

After several years of participation on an Outlaws mailing list not directly associated with this list, I have decided that the website should have its own list.  The list signup on the front page is NOT for the same list which was previously there, but for a new one directly affiliated with this website. I do hope some of you will join us.  The list will allow for discussion of the band, posting of current news (which it appears we WILL be having....) and notifications of upcoming guest chats.

I was recently accused of making a "profit" from the request for donations to pay for the PictureTrails photo space and subsequent space.  Yes, we did get more donations than the funds required to pay for the "locked" PT space to be reopened, but certainly it is no huge profit.  The PayPal account, which was opened specifically for this purpose, as it stands today, has $18.12 in it, which is being held in case more space is required or heaven forbid PT goes down and we have to move the site to somewhere ELSE.  If any of those who donated want a refund, all they have to do is ASK...I'll transfer their donations back to them.
