HENRY PAUL
Rhythm Guitar, vocals

While Henry was not an original member, having come into the band in about 1972-1973 some time after the departure of Herb Pino, I'm not ignoring Henry--I have a lot of respect for Henry Paul and found him to be a tremendous source of talent and a heck of a decent guy.  He's clearly the country influence in the Outlaws sound and fans from the old bar room days still remember him belting out a mean version of Jackson Browne's "Red Neck Friend" ....

Henry was born August 25, 1949 in Kingston, New York, but raised in good ole Florida.  Prior to becoming an Outlaw, Henry and Monte Yoho played in the Tampa area with "Sienna" (1970-see Monte's personal photo collection under "Photos" for a PR shot of Sienna).

When the Outlaws regrouped, Henry's more country flavored sound changed the course of Outlaws music.  Henry played on the first three Outlaws albums, then left to form "The Henry Paul Band" who released four albums on Atlantic Records.

In 1986, Henry reunited with the Outlaws and recorded the "Soldiers of Fortune" album.  He toured with the band for some time after this recording but then moved to Nashville to pursue his own brand of music.

The result was BlackHawk-- Henry, Van Stephenson and Dave Robbins.  Sadly, Van passed away on April 8, 2001 after a tough fight with cancer, and BlackHawk seemed to be grounded.  Nobody can ground a Freeborn Man, and the group has reformed with Chris Anderson filling the spot vacated by Stephenson's death.  Upcoming show dates for BlackHawk can be found elsewhere on the site.

Henry wandered into this website in early April 2002 and left this message:

Hey this is Henry Paul. This is the best Outlaws web site I have ever seen.
I would like to send my most sincere apppreciation to James Peter Britton,
Billy Jones and "Rock"O'Keefe. With them still in the world , the Outlaws
could make a great album, but without those men we could never make
another record that accurately captures the spirit of what the Outlaws were!!!!!
I don't know who's web site this is but it completely kicked my ass, and
captured the true spirit of this still proud band.

Sincerely
Henry Paul

(guess I need to make an "about the webmaster" page cuz Henry's not the first one who's said they didn't know who this site belonged to)

In July 2002, Henry wandered back in and left this little message of interest:

   31 Jul 2002

    Hey Susie
I check out your web site all the time and I think it is without doubt the bands website.
Your information is for the most part on the money and your perspective is like going back in time.
There is a new song on the new BlackHawk record called "Brothers Of The Southland" that was
written by myself, Dave Robbins, and Jim Peterick. It's a tribute to all our friends we toured with
over the years and is dedicated to Billy Jones And Frank O'Keefe.
My Love and respect to you for all you do
    Sincerely
    Henry Paul

For some more recent Henry stuff, check the links page--there are several very good Blackhawk sites there.
