For most of the "recorded version" Outlaws fans, David Dix seemed like a "newcomer" when he joined up with the band and did double duty with Monte Yoho, and then later was sole drummer for the band. In reality, David Dix was the ORIGINAL drummer of the Outlaws back in the 1960's and REJOINED the band later on. In fact the early Outlaws were managed by David's dad!
Back in the old Youth Center days, it was not uncommon for a fan of the band to walk into an Outlaws gig and say "Who's on Drums?"--even though David was the "official" drummer in the band, on occasion, due to "regular jobs" or other reasons, we were never quite sure if we'd be getting "Stix" or Monte Yoho. Monte eventually replaced Dix full time, and as the years progressed, Dix replaced Monte full time. This one one portion of the "lineup switches" during the Outlaws history that didn't bother the old fans a bit, cuz we loved 'em both!
After leaving the Outlaws the last time, David did a stint working in a law office and now is pursuing other musical interests, playing in a jazz group and teaching drums. He still resides in Tampa FL.
