Log Cabin Republicans is the nation's largest organization representing gay and lesbian Republicans and their friends. Log Cabin Republicans has over 50 chapters across the country, a national office staff in Washington, D.C. and a federal political action committee which raises money for inclusive Republican candidates.
Log Cabin Republicans of Tampa Bay was founded in 1991 as the Log Cabin Club of Tampa Bay. In 1998, the organization changed it's name to the Log Cabin Republicans of Tampa Bay to more accurately reflect our Republican ties and to more closely align our organization with the national Log Cabin Republican organization.
In the fall of 2001, Log Cabin Republicans of Tampa Bay applied for a charter with the Republican Party of Florida following approval of a charter for our sister chapter in Ft. Lauderdale, the Broward Log Cabin Club. Log Cabin Republicans of Tampa Bay submitted the charter application through the Hillsborough County Republican Executive Committee (HCREC) and after obtaining all the required approvals, it was forwarded to the Republican Party of Florida by the HCREC. In January 2002, Republican Party of Florida Chairman Al Cardenas approved the application and Log Cabin Republicans of Tampa Bay became a chartered organization. In 2003, The Republican Party of Florida granted a charter to our newest sister chapter, The Log Cabin Republicans of Orlando.
Our members are active in the campaigns of candidates that adhere to the principles of the Log Cabin Republicans. We are active in local party organizations. We go out and represent Log Cabin Republicans of Tampa Bay in organizations throughout the gay and lesbian community as well as those in the straight community. We participate in the local gay pride events to reach out to the gay and lesbian Republicans who feel that other parties do not represent their opinions and values.
