K- 5th
Grade Open House - December 6th 7
- 9 PM
If you are in the area and have elementary school age children please
consider visiting the school to learn more about what is available at
the school for your children. If you are aware of any families who might
benefit from sending their children to HFCS please tell them about this
Open House/Information Night. We have a great story to tell and would
love to share it with as many potential families as possible. For more
information you can contact the school directly.
Students Rise to the Occassion
The school’s Student Leadership Board organized a ‘‘charity nut day’’ a
few weeks ago. Due to the devastation of schools in Louisiana, our
students connected with Ascension of Our Lord (AOL) Catholic School in
LaPlace, La; they were fortunate to be able to reopen taking in almost
175 more students who were not able to return to their own school. Our
goal was to raise money to fund money for milk, lunches, supplies and
tuition for those students. In one week, $3,300 was collected. Our
students wrote and will continue to write to their ‘‘classmates’’
assuring them of our continued prayers. We hope to be pen pals
throughout the year, reminding them of our continued support.
New Staff
This year we welcome
two new teachers to the staff: Mrs. Bebe Ocano is teaching K-2
Art and Mrs. Christine Hopkins is the new Kindergarten
Assistant. Welcome!
New Program
Holy Family has added a new type of Enrichment Program to its curriculum
this year. The program targets students in grades three through eight
who have shown outstanding performance on ITBS tests and classroom
performance. The groups meet each week to develop critical thinking,
problem solving, and divergent thinking skills. Archaeology is their
main course of study this year. The groups will explore this fascinating
topic and do individual projects relating to famous archaeological
sites. They have already enjoyed an Archaeology Outreach Guest Speaker
from the Pinellas County Science Center, and look forward to a spring
field trip to the Vulcan Mines where they will experience their own
“dig”.
Vocation Angel Prayer
Program
The children, staff, and families of HFCS will be praying for vocations.
Classes will focus on praying for vocations to the Priesthood, Religious
Life, deaconate and lay ministry. We will also pray for vocations to
single life and faithful marriages. Join us in prayer this year that all
may be open to hearing God’’s call and responding to what God wants of
us in our lives. Let us also pray for our Seminarians in our diocese who
are preparing for priesthood, and young men and women considering
religious life.
Adopt a Class
Would you like to be a sponsor for a class or program? The cost is only
$150. For youR donation you are remembered in the students’ prayers
every day. The students get to use the money for their classroom. If you
would like more information contact Sr. Flo at famarino@aol.com or call
her at the school.

Mark your calendar for
March 25, 2006
Plan to join us
for our 20th Annual Auction Fundraiser at Holy Family Catholic School!
This year’s auction is sure to be one filled with extra
special festivities and excitement, as it’s the 20th Anniversary
of our Auction, and the kickoff social event for our Parish and School’s
50th Anniversary celebration!
If you have been to the auction the past few years, you know that it has
become “the” event to attend, filled with food, fun, friends, music and
top notch entertainment. We’re planning to have well over 300
exceptional silent auction items, so you’ll be sure to find something to
bid on!
We were in Paris at the Cabaret in 2005, at the Starlight Lounge, Las
Vegas in 2004 and on Safari in 2003: we had rave reviews
from all who attended. We’re sure that
you’re raving too if you were there.
If you haven’t had the chance to be at our School’s major FUNraiser and
FUNDraiser the past few years, 2006 is the event to attend. Start making
your plans now. As always, we’re
inviting all alumni and parents to our 2006 auction event on March
25th to kickoff our year long 50th Anniversary celebration.
You cant’ miss this one! Plan to have a
table with your fellow alumni from the year you graduated!
Contact Frank Dillon 727-576-7555 or Mary Vigue 727- 217-0960 to make
your reservations: you’ll be glad you did! You’ll also be able to
check out our Holy Family School and see how much has changed, and how
much has “stayed the same” since those good old days when you were here
at Holy Family!
See you on March 25, 2006!
Support
the School
Just like every other organization it seems, we rely on the generosity
of our families and Alumni. There are ways you can help the school right
from the comfort of your own home.
Entertainment Books can be ordered directly through the Internet for
just about every area of the country. Just go to
www.entertainment.com and enter our school code 299147.
We continue to recycle newspaper, collect Campbell labels
and “Boxtops for Education” from General Mills products, buy
pizza from any Domino’s in the area on any Wednesday, and
recycle ink cartridges and old cell phones; buy the 2006
Chick-Fil-A calendars from the school for $5 and we receive $2.50.
Purchasing from the internet? We receive a % if you begin at
www.Schoolpop.com and use our
name or ID number - select our school and go shopping.
A new program started last year was the SCRIP program. In this
program you purchase gift cards or gift certificates for a variety of
well-known retailers, restaurants, etc. at face value with no extra cost
to you. The school gets a rebate for each card. It is a WIN-WIN
situation for all involved. With the holidays coming up it is a great
way to support the school and do some shopping either with the cards or
use them as gifts.
The school orders monthly and an order form is on the school website
that shows the cards available. I’m sure the office could work out a way
to order for any Alumni out of town.
Use a Target credit card?
Register Holy Family Catholic School and we receive 1 or 2% for the
school.
Office Depot gives 5% to the school all year
round for qualifying supply purchases. It doesn’t matter what city you
are in; just tell them Holy Family Catholic School in St. Petersburg,
FL.
