Technical Help: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why do these pages load so slowly?[Back to top]
These pages use certain features like navigation buttons that light up when your mouse rolls over them. Sometimes, they can slow down how fast a page loads. Try our Text-Only website. Just click the link below the navigation column that reads "Try Our Text-Only Website." This site lacks the graphics and animations of our main site, but contains all the important information.

Why do some links not do anything when I click on them?[Back to top]
You may have a pop-up blocker installed. Some versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer have this feature built in, or, you may have this feature installed from another source. Usually, pop-up blockers will automatically prohibit you from opening pages set to open in a new window, as many pages on this site are. Simply hold down the "Ctrl" key while clicking a link that your pop-up blocker has blocked - that should let you view the page with no problems.

What web browser should I be using? Are there any specific settings I should know about?[Back to top]
This page works best with Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater, and can be used on Netscape 4.0 or greater and most versions of AOL. If problems occur, try downloading the latest versions of Internet Explorer, available for free from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx.

For settings, set your screen resolution to 800x600, 24 bit color or better, with text sizes set to medium. [How do I do that?]

Why will these pages not load at all?[Back to top]
You may be using an older web browser, in which case, you could download a new one for free [see "What web browser should I be using," above].

Or, you may have security settings that disable a type of computer language known as Javascript. Certain browswer settings, or Windows XP Service Pack 2, sometimes block javascript controls. The controls on this site cannot harm your computer in any way and are simply meant for creating pretty rollover buttons and layers. Follow directions on your browser or any warning boxes that appear to allow scripts to be run.

If all else fails, try our text-only website, which can be accessed by clicking the link below the navigation bar on the main page.

Why am I not seeing the animations and light-up buttons correctly?[Back to top]
See the question above, "Why will these pages not load at all." I know, its a different question, but the answer is the same.

Why is everything so big/too small? Why do I have to scroll from side to side to see everything? [Back to top]
The best way to fix this problem is to set your screen resolution to 800x600 or as close as your monitor can get, with text sizes set to medium. [How do I do that?]

What technologies does this site use?[Back to top]
This site uses primarily still and animated GIFs and HTML, which should be visible on any computer. Some features use Java and Javascript, which also should be visible on any computer with Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater, or Netscape 4.0 or greater, or most versions of AOL. There are no active-x controls or flash features.
