Here are some ideas to get your patron get started with:
ONLINE RESOURCES
More and more genealogists are using the Internet to successfully connect
with others researching the same family. Many online resources exist for
different types of genealogy.
Show your patron these:
- Roots Web - Largest collection of genealogy websites, mailing lists and researchers online. Millions of names in their World Connect Family Tree database. Free, but owned by
and with connections to Ancestry.com, a pay genealogy website with addtional information and databases.
- Ancestry.com - Now a huge database of records,
including the US Census, and hundreds of other databases. Available for home subscription, or with additional features if your public library subscribes to AncestyPlus Library Edtiion.
- US Gen Web - Volunteer website with sections for every state and a lot of foreign countries. volunteers from each state post information and records for their
locality.
- Cyndi's List - Largest collection on genealogy links online.
- Family Tree Maker - Help with the most popular genealogy program for digitizing your family records and printing out good looking
pages and books with the information.
- Helm's Genealogy Toolbox - Thousands of Genealogy record sources since 1994
